Church of The Holy Sepulchre

Background

The Church is a beautiful medieval sandstone church set within the South Downs, notable for its exceptionally unspoilt eighteenth-century interior, including original oak pews, a triple-decker pulpit, and historic flagstone floors.

This beautiful medieval sandstone church set within the south downs has an unspoilt eighteenth-century interior including oak pews, a clerk’s desk, a triple-decker pulpit, an uneven flagstone floor, and a curved brace roof.

In 2016 reroofing works were undertaken including extensive bespoke timber repairs with a combination of like-for-like repairs and stainless steel brackets, designed to retain as much of the historic fabric as possible whilst also being reversible. Many of these honest and sympathetic repairs remain visible from within the church.

The works recived the Civic Trust Conservation Commendation in 2018.
