Background
The Grade II* listed Sheerness Dockyard Church is a landmark historic building on the Isle of Sheppey, severely damaged by fire in 2001 and left derelict for almost two decades. Once placed on Historic England’s Heritage at Risk Register, the building has since become a powerful symbol of heritage-led regeneration.
Project Overview
Through a £9.5 million conservation and transformation project, the church has been carefully restored and adapted to create a vibrant community hub, providing co-working space, exhibition areas, a café, and event facilities while retaining the majority of its historic fabric.
The project exemplifies best practice in conservation, sustainability, and collaboration, securing the building’s long-term future and acting as a catalyst for wider regeneration in Sheerness.
